Help Us to Help You

Welcome to Knowle House Surgery. The NHS, and General Practice in particular, is under a huge amount of strain at the moment.  Please help us to help you look after your health by reading the following summary of how we can provide you with our best medical care.

  • Please bring photo ID to reception and ask to register for our online services. This will enable you to book appointments, order medications, and review some aspects of your medical notes.
  • All of our GPs have routine appointments which can be booked online and via our reception team. Please attend your appointments on time and if you can’t make it, cancel it so someone can have your slot.
  • There are many ways to order your repeat medications: online; via your pharmacy; dropping off a request at reception. Please allow 72 hours for us to process your requests but let us know if it’s needed urgently and the doctor will check if it’s something which can’t wait.
  • We always have a same day emergency doctor available for urgent problems that cannot wait. The reception team will ask the emergency GP to phone you back if you ask for an urgent appointment. Please keep your phone with you and stay in an area with mobile reception.       The emergency GP is often very busy and may only be able to phone you back once.
  • The emergency doctor doesn’t routinely prescribe benzodiazepines, morphine-type painkillers or sleeping tablets; please make an appointment with your regular GP to discuss these medications.
  • Our reception team will ask you for a description of why you would like an appointment so they can help guide you to the most appropriate appointment or service for you. The more information you give them, the more they can help find the most appropriate appointment for you.       Please let them know if it’s a personal problem.
  • Our GP appointment time is 10 minutes. So that we can provide you with safe medical care, please try to stick to one problem per appointment.   If you feel you need a longer appointment, please let our reception staff know.
  • If you’re more than 10 minutes late the doctor may be unable to see you as it impacts on all the patients after you. If you feel you need to be seen that day please let a receptionist know and they’ll speak to a doctor.
  • We strive to provide continuity of care. You will have a named GP and clinical letters and results will be sent to them, but all GPs can read this from your medical record. Where possible please try to see the same GP for on-going problems. This continuity is beneficial to both you and our team.
  • We charge for non-NHS letters; please look on our website for current charges.
  • NHS England have asked us to ask patients to to buy over the counter medication where possible, rather than issuing prescriptions.

If you have any questions or concerns about the above information we’d be happy to speak to you about them. Thank you for all your support.
